Advanced Creative Writing " student comment"

Thank you, Mr. Ryan. I have learned a lot from this class. The discussion about the differences between academic writing and creative writing was very helpful as It can be confusing to many people. Creative writing did not only help me unleash my creative side but it helped me be more confident. I always see myself as artistic. I love arts and crafts and baking. This class gave me confidence and made me comfortable when writing about everyday life. I used to write journals back in high school but with busy career, I was not able to continue. Although, I still see it as part of my everyday life by writing posts on Instagram and Facebook. This last assignment made me evaluate how creative writing is also part of my nursing career.

I got my RN license in 2001 and since then I’ve worked at various clinics and for the past 5 years as a charge nurse at a local regional hospital. My supervisor and many of my senior coworkers have been urging me to get a BSN and MSN degrees. But with two children at home and pressures of a full-time job I just didn’t think I had the time. Then I received a postcard in the mail about the RN-to-BSN program at Homestead Schools. One Saturday I visited the school campus in Torrance, met with the director of nursing, Ms. Adel Blanco, exchanged stories with the friendliest group of students, sat through a class and, lo and behold, I was one of them next week. I hope to graduate in August 2018 fulfilling my life-long dream. My career has taken an upswing and I look forward to big things happening to me.

Goodafternoon Mr Ryan,

This class came at the right time in my life. I have recently been transferred to a health care facility where the nurses are expected to be leaders and believe it or not be public speakers. Part of my daily routine is to communicate patient information with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other staff. I have to pronounce complex medical words. I have been a nurse for over 17 years but have never been required to be such a public speaker.

I have really learned a lot from taking this class with you. For one of the first assignments you had the students examine the different communication styles and then identify our own communication style. This helped me to stop and do an honest assessment of my self an my communications weaknesses and the strengths(SWOT). This class has taught me to take my time time stop, read and enunciate each syllabus of the words i have to say. It sounds simple but i have really learned to do this from taking this class. Which is kind of weird because this is an online class in which we never spoke.

I have also learned more about different ways to communicate using current technology and digital media. This class has taught me to be familiar with and appreciate the different means of communicating and conferencing via the internet using software such as aodobe connect, Vsee.com, and blackboardcolloboration.com. All of which are excellent tools for communicating and making things happen in an efficient and timely manner.

I have really appreciated the time and effort you have put in to teaching and leading this course. As an expect of you and your assignments. You have been very clear, concise, and have provided the appropriate guidance, resources and feedback.

Thank you,

E.L RN-BSN Student

Dear Professor Ryan,

From this class I was able to gain a much deeper understanding of the beefits and drawbacks of relying on technology to communicate. I communicate with my peers and family through the use of technology a lot more than I was previously aware, and I realize now that although it may not seem as sincere as writing a hand-written letter, it allows me to keep up-to-date with the lives of my family members as well as keep in constant contact with those that i care about. However, in a professional setting, the information I intend to convey may not be communicated as effectively as I would have wanted. Therefore, any vitally important information that must be passed on to my peers or team, should be communicated through the form of a face-to-face meeting as much as possible as that ensures the recipient has received the information, and that I am there to clear up any misunderstandings as soon as they arise. What I have learned here will not only benefit me in my professional career, but has also taught me to consider situations from diffrent perspectives which is paramount for me to provide the best care I can as a nurse for my patients.

Thank you for bringing this to our attetion, and teaching us to think critically.

Sincerely,

Millie Leung, RN-BSN Student

Good morning Ron,

Its V.V. I know you told me to follow back this week and sorry for the short notice its because I've been busy at work and helping my family with transportation because of family issues. Anyways, I did redo my resume and I appreciate the help a lot. I wish I had gone to you earlier when I first got my license in December if I knew about all the help I could get from you which is something I do regret. My colleague F.i just got a job at Torrance Care which I am truly happy for her but disappointed in myself. I applied to a lot of places before I went to you and I wish that I had went to you first because that recommendation letter would have been very helpful. Its been a struggle for me the past 3 months and I remember you asked me to apply at Torrance Care but then I informed you I had already. They did interview me on the spot and told me to call them back about my schedule. I believe that they didn't get me because maybe my work schedule at the moment. I was honest with them and informed them that I was ready to leave the job I have right now which is working at DoubleTree. I do work full time but I informed them that my manager knows that I was leaving soon and is waiting for me to get my nursing job to hire someone else. (Maybe that wasn't the right thing to say) But I am just being honest. My managers and staff are proud of my achievement and would like me to further my career. I told them I am reliable and always on time and whenever they need me then I will be there because I started off as part-time front desk agent and now Im full time. Its a long story but I believe my reason for not getting the job was because of maybe they thought it was something that might be an issue due to my current job and schedule. I did tell them that eventually the hotel will work around my schedule. I know forsure that I am reliable but I guess they didnt take that opportunity or maybe evaluated the wrong impression. I have worked while going to nursing school at McDonalds for 4 years. Then when I graduated I got a second job at the hotel. And it will be 2 years in May so for a fact Im not the type of person to move from job to job. Anyways I will call you today about jobs or if you could call me at work its perfectly fine at 310-830-9200. I just wanted to inform you about everything and that I appreciate your help. YOU ARE really one of the few at Homestead that make a difference and help the students. I've heard and seen other things about our school and honestly you are one of the few that have helped. I remember you going in and out our classes passing information. Thank you for taking the time to read and hear me out. Its just been really hard for me and I really do wish I had went to you in December then I did now.

Sincerely, V.V

Hi Ron,

Thank you for keeping me updated and connected to your job postings for us graduates of homestead. I would just like to inform you that i submitted my resume and cover letter.

Thank you and God bless!
Best, K.M

Dear Jennifer,

I just wanted to say Thank you for all of your help. I passed my test in 48 minutes with only 85 questions.

I was so nervous my first day of school-but I listened to you and George when you were teaching us the ATI class the first week. I copied your study habits and it has paid off.

Thank you for all your help and advise along the year you really helped to make a difference for me!

Happy Holidays, W.F

"The board of nursing sent me some forms in the mail. I received it yesterday. They will allow me to take the NCLEX again. You know, that is good news for me. I will have a better chance after I finish the program. It is indeed a divine arrangement or intervention by God to have people like you and Mr. Ignacio. I will continue to put in time to study ahead of the class like I am doing right now. Mrs. Merlyn is a good teacher. Thank you for the opportunity. I will not let you down. You will continue to hear and see my progress in batch 7. Please extend my gratitude to Mr. Ignacio, Mrs. Merlin, my teacher, and the rest of the teachers both in the classroom and in the clinical. Thank you for giving me the chance of a lifetime. God bless you and all the staff who are helping to make things happen. Please continue to keep me in your prayers."

NCLEX review class with Adel- Student comments...

Ms. Adel is the best! The information that she prepared us with is priceless. She is very skillful and she teaches with love. I would recommend Ms. Adel to anyone. She is so magnificent that she could teach a blind and deaf person and they would pass the NCLEX on the first try. She is outstanding. I learned so much from her. I know that I will pass.

She is the best! Awesome! Amazing! I 'm so very glad that I had the opportunity to attend Ms. Adel Blanco's review! She has definitely enhanced my test taking strategies! I will definitely recommend her to future nursing students! Oh, did I mention super duper fabulous, kind hearted, and nice!

She is so awesome! Not boring at all. Makes lessons easy to understand, She also explains everything and teaches strategies to answer questions, making it easy for us. I really learned a lot from her and now I understand things more than when I was in school. GREAT INSTRUCTOR!!

She is a brainiac. She is the best nurse. She has knowledge, extremely smart. I have learned more now than ever.

This wonderful human being is the best thing that could happen to this school. I feel I learned more in this review class than during the 18 months I was in school. This class is a must have!

Very happy with the information that she provided. Learned more with her than alll 111 years of class.

Ms. Adel is the greatest teacher I have had at Homestead. I only wish this class was given at the beginning of the LVN program. Ms. Adel is happy and she loves to teach. She loves what she does and she is great at it. I hope she continues to teach more students. Thanks so much, E. W.

I felt sorry for her. She was teaching us and reviewing at the same time. It was hard work on her part. It's like we started from the very beginning. She made us understand the things that made us confused before. She presented it with ease, which made it easy for us to comprehend more. There's no more to say, she's the best! Excellent!

Ms. Adel provided tools that helped me a lot to understand NCLEX more. She's very organized and explains topics clearly.

Ms. Adel was very helpful. I 'll never forget taking her review class. She's awesome! I will keep on attending her class until I take my actual test. She makes me confident. Her test taking strategy was very helpful. Doing a lot of practice tests helped me very much. I thank Homestead because having her class in the school has helped us to understand how to take our NCLEX exam. She is one of a kind.

Ms. Blanco is a wonderful person and a wonderful teacher. I can recommend her with other schools and classmates. I'm giving her a very satisfactory review, 100% excellent. Thanks very much for letting me stay in your review, Mrs. Blanco. God bless you.

Ms. Adel is an asset for this institution (Homestead). She knows what she is presenting to the class - the lecture is very relevant to the review taken in the classroom. The explanations with examples are well presented and very clear to understand.

I'm looking forward to taking more of your review classes. You were very helpful and easy to understand. I wish we had you as a teacher here at Homestead. I feel like I've learned a lot from you.

I'm very satisfied with all of the learning tools. I've learned a lot from this review. I just have to put forth more effort. I deeply appreciate this review class. It's given me more knowledge. Thank you! Thanks a million, Mrs. Blanco!

With Ms. Adel, I've learned how to do test taking strategies. She's very good and awesome! She knows what she is doing and she is very energetic. Thanks, Ms. Blanco.

Too many groups were talking, interrupting the lecture. Since they were busy talking, they kept asking the instructor to repeat (speaking their own language the whole time). Students need to learn manners- adult manners! The teacher is excellent! I will take her class again.

Please provide more time with the review with Ms. Blanco.

I would like to recommend Ms. Blanco for future NCLEX reviews. She is excellent at teaching NCLEX reviews. She makes sure your ready to take the NCLEX exam. I'm going to attend her upcoming class in January and continue until I take the NCLEX exam.

This class/review was great! Thank you Ms. Adell

I'll continue attending her review class. She is knowledgeable. I learned a lot from her. Keep her here at Homestead! She is an asset to our school.

I recommend this NCLEX review for any student that's getting ready to take the NCLEX exam. Mrs. Blanco is very knowledgeable.

Mrs. Blanco is an excellent teacher.
